Nostalgic
Nostalgia
So many things in this world allow me to feel like a kid again. To relive that moment one more time. Today nostalgia hit a little harder but it ended a chapter. If you have ever read or watched Harry Potter, you may have heard of Michael Gambon ( Albus Dumbledore) passing. He is now in the company of the other greats. (listen to Dancing in the sky) Rest In Peace.
With this news it made me think of my childhood, and knowing that some of the things we grew up with future generations may never know or understand.
I grew up with VHS, you would have to rewind the tape before actually watching it. Going to Blockbuster at the end of the week to pick up the latest film. Redbox, the fun of going to the library and being able to add a star to your book chart at school for completely another. The music, we had great boy bands and stars that burned out too soon. We grew up with PBS, ice cream trucks, and germ-infested play places at McDonald's that in truth helped us build our immune systems.
Before we had phones, we would write notes in class and pass them back and forth. We all would cross our fingers and hold our breath praying the teacher wouldn't catch us and put us to shame by reading the note. Going to school dances, homecoming, trampoline parks, Chucky Cheese.
We grew up with chia pets, Tamagotchi, Club Penguin, Poptropica, MySpace, Facebook, and snapchat.
We grew up with amazing literature, Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, Divergent, and so much more.
I remember slime was considered cool, or drying glue on our desk and peeling it and creating little dried-out glue pets that we would name.
I grew up with an imagination. Did you?
